چکیده

Granular flows in a narrow pipe are studied numerically by the model taking account of hydrodynamic effects of fluid surrounding particles. In the simulations density waves are observed over the wide range of the Stokes number, which represents the inertial effect of particles. The mechanisms of formation of the density waves are considered and two types of density waves, which are observed in the systems with zero and finite Stokes numbers, are presented. Power spectra of density waves obtained from the simulations with non-zero Stokes number show 1/f power law which is similar to that in experiments. 46.10.+z,47.55.Kf,05.40.+j Typeset using REVTEX Electronic address: [email protected]

Pattern formation and shocks in granular gases

industry but are less well understood than fluids or solids. We consider the behavior of rapid granular flows where the transfer of momenta by collisions dominates. The physics is quite different for the opposite limit of static or slowly moving grains (e.g., sand piles). To gain understanding of granular flows we consider two problems that have been investigated with experiments, particle simu...

Numerical Simulation of Granular Column Collapses with Pressure-Dependent Viscoplastic Model using the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamic Method

This paper presents a numerical analysis of granular column collapse phenomenon using a two-dimensional smoothed particle hydrodynamics model and a local constitutive law proposed by Jop et al. This constitutive law, which is based on the viscoplastic behaviour of dense granular material flows, is characterized by an apparent viscosity depending both on the local strain rate and the local press...

Finding Electrostatics modes in Metal Thin Films by using of Quantum Hydrodynamic Model

In this paper, by using a quantum hydrodynamic plasma model which incorporates the important quantum statistical pressure and electron diffraction force, we present the corrected plasmon dispersion relation for graphene which includes a k quantum term arising from the collective electron density wave interference effects (which  is integer and constant and k is wave vector). The longitudinal ...

Granular Hydrodynamics and Pattern Formation in Vertically Oscillated Granular Disks Layers

A numerical hydrodynamic model of a vibrated granular bed in 2D is elaborated based on a highly accurate Shock Capturing scheme applied to the compressible Navier-Stokes equations for granular flow. The hydrodynamic simulation of granular flows is numerically difficult, particularly in systems where dilute and dense regions occur at the same time and interact with each other. As an example of s...

Density waves in the flows of granular media.

We study density waves in the flows of granular particles through vertical tubes and hoppers using both analytic methods and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. We construct equations of motion for quasi one-dimensional systems. The equations, combined with the Bagnold’s law for friction, are used to describe the time evolutions of the density and the velocity fields for narrow tubes and hoppe...
